On the Brooklyn Bridge, lower Manhattan in the background

Hello!

My name is Jonathan, and I am the Associate Editor in the Marketing and Communications Department at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

In addition to working as a writer and editor, I am also a freelance trombonist playing everything from classical to jazz to musical theater. My prior engagements include the Arditti Quartet, the Berkeley Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic, Modesto Symphony, the Jacam Manricks Orchestra, the Camellia Symphony Orchestra, and the Byron Colborn Big Band.

I completed my Ph.D. in Musicology at UC Davis in 2022. My dissertation explores the intersection between music and ecology (or, ecomusicology) in outer space, using science fiction films from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s as primary source material. Head over to my research page to learn more.

In my free time, I like to ride my bike, cook, and explore the city. I’m in the very early stages of developing a blog titled “Echoes of Appalachia,” where I’ll write about some of my favorite Americana and folk bands, especially those from my home state of North Carolina. If you’d like to get in touch with me about my work or anything else, I’d love to hear from you.
