On the Brooklyn Bridge, lower Manhattan in the background

Hello!

My name is Jonathan, and I am the Editor in the Marketing and Communications Department at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

In addition to working as a writer and editor, I am also a freelance trombonist playing everything from classical to jazz to musical theater. My prior engagements include the Arditti Quartet, the Berkeley Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic, Modesto Symphony, the Jacam Manricks Orchestra, the Camellia Symphony Orchestra, the Riverside Orchestra, and the Byron Colborn Big Band.

I completed my Ph.D. in Musicology at UC Davis in 2022. My dissertation explores the intersection between music and ecology (or, ecomusicology) in outer space, using science fiction films from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s as primary source material. Head over to my research page to learn more.

In my free time, I like to ride my bike, cook, and explore the city. With my best friend, Will, I am the other half of the Hog in the Fog YouTube and podcast crew, dedicated to creating barbecue content for the average backyard pitmaster. We try to put out episodes at a somewhat regular rate, but life is life. I eventually want to create a blog here about what I’m listening to, but I don’t know where to begin, so I’ll just start posting stuff and hopefully it turns into something interesting. If you’d like to get in touch with me about my work or anything else, I’d love to hear from you.
